As part of the ongoing effort to shape the future of transportation in the Ouachita region, North Delta employees and members of our consultant firm, Alliance Transportation Group (ATG-DCCM), recently participated in two important public outreach events to hear directly from the community. These events are key components in developing the updated Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP) for the Ouachita Council of Governments (OCOG)—a comprehensive, long-range plan that looks 25 years into the future.
Connecting with the Community
The first outreach event occurred at Downtown After Dark on June 5, 2025. This lively community event provided a perfect backdrop for informal, one-on-one conversations with residents. Our team was on-site, engaging with attendees, answering questions, and collecting input on transportation needs, priorities, and ideas. Whether people were concerned about walkability, traffic congestion, or access to public transit, every comment contributed valuable insight into how we can build a better-connected Ouachita Parish.
The second outreach opportunity occurred just before the Monroe City Council Meeting on June 10, 2025. Positioned outside City Hall, our team was able to engage with residents attending the meeting and others passing by. This setting allowed for a more civic-minded discussion of transportation infrastructure, and residents were eager to share their visions for the future of our roadways, bike paths, pedestrian facilities, and transit systems.
Why It Matters
The Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP) sets the foundation for transportation investments in the region for the next 25 years. Public participation is not just encouraged—it’s essential. These outreach events ensure that the plan reflects the real-world needs and desires of those who live and work in Ouachita Parish.
