Last Thursday, DZD – Northeast Region Highway Safety celebrated the completion of the $2.9 million lighting project that spans 3.69 miles along Highway 165 South in the Town of Richwood. The lighting project was made possible through HSIP Safety Funds, which were part of the transportation plan of the Ouachita Council of Governments (O.C.O.G.). Although the lights will provide increased visibility for all road users, Destination Zero Deaths Regional Coordinator Susan Gilbert Gentry encourages everyone to keep safety in mind when traveling the corridor. Bicyclists and pedestrians make yourselves visible by wearing bright and/or reflective clothing and do not attempt to cross the roadway if you are impaired. Drivers are encouraged not to be impaired or distracted, and to keep their eyes on the road. Thank you to everyone who made this safety improvement possible.
